Unlawful assembly while wearing a mask or other disguise is a criminal offence in Canada, under section 66(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Punishment for unlawful assembly<\/h4>\n

66 (1) Every one who is a member of an unlawful assembly is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.<\/p>\n

Concealment of identity<\/h4>\n

(2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1) while wearing a mask or other disguise to conceal their identity without lawful excuse is guilty of<\/p>\n

(a) an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or<\/p>\n

(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.<\/p>\n

Why is it illegal to wear a mask in an unlawful assembly?<\/h2>\n

Otherwise law-abiding citizens often become violent while wearing a mask.<\/p>\n

In any violence done by a mask-wearer, the human is not considered responsible; everyone understands the crime was committed by the mask itself.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Patriote flag<\/b>\u00a0was used by the\u00a0Patriote movement<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Lower Canada<\/a>\u00a0(present-day\u00a0Quebec<\/a>) between 1832 and 1838.<\/p>\n

Some theories about its origins claim that the colour\u00a0green<\/a>\u00a0was adopted to represent the\u00a0Irish of Lower Canada<\/a>, the colour\u00a0white<\/a>\u00a0for the “French Canadians<\/a>,” and\u00a0red<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0English of the territory<\/a>. Some also say that the\u00a0tricolour<\/a>\u00a0style was inspired by the\u00a0French tricolour<\/a>, symbol of the\u00a0French Revolution<\/a>\u00a0that inspired the Patriotes.[citation needed<\/span><\/a><\/i>]<\/sup>\u00a0It became the\u00a0national flag<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Republic of Lower Canada<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0Declaration of Independence of Lower Canada<\/a>\u00a0in 1838. Currently, it is used by\u00a0contemporary Quebec independence supporters<\/a>\u00a0as a symbol of their movement and ideal. It is often seen in crowds at\u00a0Quebec National Day<\/a>\u00a0concerts and gatherings and was featured at the voting day assembly of YES supporters of the\u00a01995 Quebec referendum<\/a>\u00a0on independence.<\/p>\n
